If McDonald's ever used to ask on a regular basis, it has switched to a 'customer must ask' mentality. It's just another step for the cashier to have to remember, and this takes just a bit more time, and that equals a bit more money.
Plus, those ketchup packets actually do cost something, so why throw away a few pennies at a time if the customer doesn't want it? After a few thousand orders, that starts to add up. It's like the science of cost analysis, and it entirely favors the corporation from every angle.

Some McDonalds locations you do have to ask for condiments.
The McD's in my area, I never have to ask for condiments. Order a burger or fries and add condiments to my order without asking. My local McD's usually throws 3-4 ketchup packets in the bag.
I do remember visiting a McD's across town, and remember having to ask for ketchup for the Angus combo meal I ordered. The employee was pretty stingy with the ketchup as she only gave me two.

because ketchup cost money, they ask you if you want it you will say yes, they dont ask and you get home before you realise, they keep the ketchup and the 5c it would have cost them, do this all over the world 50 000 time a day it soon mounts up.
Capitalism, Gotta love it.

cause if you eat in the restaurant they have ketchup there and if you take home drive through and have no ketchup that is your fault, TWICE! (once for not asking and a second time for not having any ketchup in the refrigerator.)

Don't they keep packets of ketchup where the napkins and straws are? If you can just get your own ketchup then there's no need for them to ask.

The McD in my area has ketchup pumps so you can add your own ketchup and with burgers, they just put it on whether you like it or not.

So they don't have to give it to you, Saving them money...However, If you trick-or-treat at McDonald's they will give you ketchup because they don't have candy.

Because their fries taste better without it. I actually like not having to drown my fries in something. It's all about the potatoey goodness!

Because sauce according to our menu doesn't come with chips. You can buy it extra, but the sauce at McDonald's is generally for the nuggets. I
