Question:
McDonald's or Your cooking ?
2007-12-03 11:00:03 UTC
Hey, hey. Hello world. I must say down throughout the
years, Mickey D's have made a fortune, by feeding us
the most unhealthy of things, and still keep a good head
about what they do. Now I can cook, and very well I
might add. Especially fried chicken, with my secret
ingredients. Home made style.... Now what do you
choose, real food or Mickey D's. Not just any kind of
food. But your own home made cooking. Now be honest
here. Do you think your food tastes better, than the
great McDonald's ? Do you really ? If so, then give me
your best recipe. And if I like what I see, then you will
win.

My cooking: World's Best Lasagna

INGREDIENTS

1 pound sweet Italian sausage

3/4 pound lean ground beef

1/2 cup minced onion

2 cloves garlic, crushed

1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes

2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste

2 (6.5 ounce) cans canned tomato sauce

1/2 cup water

2 tablespoons white sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil leaves

1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 tablespoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

12 lasagna noodles

16 ounces ricotta cheese

1 egg

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 pound mozzarella cheese, sliced

3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

DIRECTIONS

In a Dutch oven, cook sausage, ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until well browned. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Season with sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, 1 tablespoon salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons parsley. Simmer, covered, for about 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles in boiling water for 8 to 10 minutes. Drain noodles, and rinse with cold water. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg, remaining parsley, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

To assemble, spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over meat sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a third of mozzarella cheese slices. Spoon 1 1/2 cups meat sauce over mozzarella, and sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Cover with foil: to prevent sticking, either spray foil with cooking spray, or make sure the foil does not touch the cheese.

Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil, and bake an additional 25 minutes. Cool for 15 minutes before serving.

I agree with you. Nothing compares to a meal cooked at home. I only have a Dou6le Cheeseburger from McDonald's about once every other month or so when I get real hungry for a burger. I don't normally cook hamburger at home. There has been so many food recalls involving ground beef that I just don't eat that much beef anymore.

I hate Mcdonald's. I think I have eaten there twice in the last 4 years. I know how to make almond roca or a score bar. It is just english toffee with chocolate and nuts on it. I also really like shephard's pie. I have so many recipes, it is not hard to cook if you want to, but these 2 are easy and good. I love food from all over the world saying I have been to so many places. I love food and Mcdonald's food neither varies or has a great flavor or feel to it.

English Toffee:

1 cup of sugar

1 cup of butter

Put in a pot and stir until it separates/ falls apart and then comes back together or until it starts to turn a medium brown color. Then pour it into a cookie sheet either with or without aluminum foil on it. Put chocolate chips, nuts, and coconut on it. (Whatever you like)

Shephard's pie:

Cook some hamburger in a pan. Put in some tomato sauce or paste with some water. Put in some garlic and/or onions. Put in some green beans and/ or black beans. (Whatever you like). You could put corn in there or beans of any kind or some tofu. However you like it. Put the hamburger mix in a good sized regular pan. Then put mashed potatoes on the hamburger mix and put cheese on it.

Eat and enjoy! Easy to make and good to eat.

My home cooking is way better than McDonald's. I don't have a best recipe, my husband likes 99% of my meals. But Mickey D's does come in handy on those days I just don't feel like cooking.

There is no doubt that my home cooking is way better than anything you can buy at McDonald's. Certainly much healthier too!

For those of you who say you can't cook. I bet you just don't give yourself enough credit. Probably one of the easiest meals you can cook is breakfast. Whether or not you eat meat, breakfast foods are good anytime of day. Like all foods, just keep it in moderation.

Two large eggs, scrambled with a fork, season with salt and white pepper, add a tablespoon or two of milk. Beat everything together with a fork or wire whisk. Adding air bubbles will make for fluffier eggs. Melt a pat of butter in a non-stick frying pan and add the eggs. Cook to just before your preferred doneness and plate. The eggs will finish cooking on the plate from residual heat.

Wipe out the pan and cook some cut link sausages until done. You've got sausage & eggs! Want to fancy it up? Before frying the eggs, dice some bell peppers and onions with a clove of minced garlic. Fry them up and then add the sausage. When the sausage is done, add the eggs.

Need to get out of the house in a hurry? Do the fancier sausage & eggs with bell peppers and onions and wrap them up in a warm flour tortilla with some cheddar cheese, salsa and avocado slices. "Instant" breakfast burrito.

For crispy bacon in a hurry. Place two sheets of "microwave safe" paper towels on a microwave safe plate. Lay out six strips of bacon side-by-side so they don't touch. Cover with another paper towel. Depending on how powerful your microwave is, it takes about one minute per slice to get really crispy bacon (easy to crumble for salads too).

These aren't my best recipes, just simple ones that can work for most people.

Bon appetit!

I personally like my own home made food better, but there are days that I don't feel like cooking, or days when I am extremely broke and a $1 double cheeseburger works.
2007-12-03 14:45:41 UTC
Well, I cant cook at all. I'm really bad at it but my mom and my fiancee cook for me so I'll take their food most days although every now and then I just gotta have a McChicken!

I honestly have better cooking than McDonald's fast food. My best recipe would be:

Spiced Lamb Chops on Sauteed Peppers and Onions with Garlic and Mint Couscous

8 loin lamb chops

Coarse salt and coarse black pepper

2 teaspoons ground cumin, 1/3 palm full

2 teaspoons ground coriander, 1/3 palm full

2 teaspoons sweet paprika, 1/3 palm full

4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided

2 green bell peppers, seeded and cubed, 1-inch pieces

1 large yellow skinned onion, cubed, 1-inch pieces

1 cup grape tomatoes

1/2 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley, a couple of handfuls

3 cloves garlic, finely chopped

3 tablespoons pine nuts

1 1/2 cups chicken stock

1 1/2 cups couscous

5 or 6 sprigs fresh mint, finely chopped, about 3 tablespoons

Cover the chops with waxed paper or plastic and whack each chop with the heel of your palm to flatten it out. Season chops with salt and pepper on both sides. Combine cumin, coriander and paprika and sprinkle the mixture evenly over chops. Pat the spices in place and wash up. Let chops stand 15 minutes.

Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, 2 turns of the pan. Add peppers and onions. Season the vegetables with salt and pepper and cook together 5 minutes, then add grape tomatoes and continue to cook until skins begin to burst on tomatoes. Add half the flat-leaf parsley to the skillet and toss. Transfer vegetables to a platter and cover with loose foil to hold heat.

Place a tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil in a small pot for couscous, just eyeball the amount. Heat oil over medium heat and add garlic. Saute garlic 1 minute then add the pine nuts to toast a little. Add chicken stock to the pot and bring it up to a boil. Add couscous, remove from heat, and cover the pot. Let stand for 5 minutes.

Return skillet to stove and add another tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, a turn of the pan. Add lamb chops to skillet and sear 2 to 3 minutes on each side for medium rare, cook 4 minutes on each side for medium well chops. Place chops on top of the peppers and onions.

Fluff couscous with a fork and stir in mint and the remaining parsley. Pass couscous at the table. It makes a nice bed for the veggies and lamb to catch all the juices.
